Building on the awareness that existing systems and service providers do not have the cultural competency and capacity to effectively treat male survivors of violence, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) partnered with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the National Institute of Justice to launch the Supporting Male Survivors of Violence Demonstration Initiative. RTI International serves as the National Cross-site evaluators for the twelve sites funded as part of this demonstration initiative to develop or expand access to culturally relevant services for boys and young men of color who have been harmed by violence. The presentation included in this panel describe different components of the national cross-site evaluation and will inform the audience about innovative approaches to engaging, supporting, and treating boys and young men of color who are survivors of violence. The first presentation explores how the cultural milieu can influence perceptions of victimization and access to services. The second presentation examines the partnerships developed across the demonstration sites and describes their role in facilitating and/or creating barriers to successful service provision. The last presentation describes the special considerations needed when developing interventions or creating services for boys and young men of color.
