The All of Us Research Program is a national initiative to inform precision medicine by engaging participants from diverse backgrounds. We are using engagement marketing and human-centered design principles to co-create digital solutions with community members to support engagement with and retention in All of Us. Building on landscape analysis and exploratory research, we conducted 52 interactive virtual workshops with 226 African American, Hispanic or Latino, and LGBTQIA+ community members. The first set of workshops confirmed barriers to participation in a research program like All of Us and generated potential digital solutions for overcoming barriers. We developed potential solutions into concepts (descriptive text and visual storyboards) and assessed acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility in a second set of workshops. Barriers included lack of awareness, lack of culturally appropriate materials, concern about personal data security and privacy, distrust of research, and unclear value/benefit of participation. The highest rated concepts to increase engagement with All of Us across the three community groups included point of care videos (mean rating 4.19 out of 5), text message chat bot (4.14), podcast/radio partnerships (3.99), and online decision support tools (3.99). Post-workshop survey results indicate that the workshops demonstrated integrity, competence, dependability, trust and collaboration; a sense of connection to All of Us; and workshop results will enhance engagement with All of Us (means 4.62-4.89). Our next steps are to develop prioritized concepts into prototypes, conduct user testing, and collaborate with All of Us consortium partners to pilot test prototypes in community and health care settings.
