We will work with you to design and implement database studies that address your research questions about epidemiology, health economics, and drug safety. Regardless of the application, our experts use a proven process to deliver dependable results. We have experience with North American and European cross-sectional and longitudinal datasets and have implemented studies to answer research questions on a variety of topics, including:
Economic Outcomes
•
Disease prevalence, incidence,
severity
and impact
•
Treatment patterns
•
Comparative effectiveness
•
Treatment gaps
Drug Safety
•
Medication adherence and persistence
•
Incidence of adverse outcomes
•
Background event rates
•
Drug exposure in pregnant women and pregnancy outcomes
Health Outcomes
•
Cost of illness
•
Cost of treatment
•
Health care resource utilization
•
Value of alternative treatments
Access the Best Dataset
We do not have a proprietary position on nor bias toward any specific database, and our status as an independent non-profit research company allows us access to datasets that may not otherwise be available (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid claims data). We can also leverage our relationships with other organizations that have patient health care data (e.g., managed care organizations and government payers) to work collaboratively on your studies. Because of these unique industry positions, you can be confident that the right data are identified and used for your study. Our experience includes, but is not limited to, working with the following data sources:
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)
General Practice Research Database (GPRD) (UK)
Medstat Commercial Claims and Encounters (CCAE)
The Health Improvement Network (THIN) (UK)
Health Search Database (Italy)
Health Survey of England (HSE)
Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) databases
Medstat Health and Productivity Management (HPM)
Henry Ford Health System

National Comorbidity Survey (NCS)
National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES)
National Health Interview Survey (NHIS)
National Hospital Discharge Survey (NHDS)
National Medical Expenditure Survey (NMES)
National Nursing Home Survey (NNHS)

Methodologies
We determine the most appropriate analytical methods for your database studies, including case control and cohort analysis and pre- to post-index-date comparisons. We will access, process and store data files, extract requisite data depending on the study objective and prepare and implement detailed analysis plans. As appropriate, we also de-identify data, apply sampling statistics for robust inferences, and use other statistical techniques to control for selection bias and other confounders.
